Is elevator recall required when elevator does not travel 25' , but has 3 levels ? I have seen where it is not required with 2 levels . The only smokes in the building are in elevator lobbies and it does have shunt trip .

why are you asking the question?
does the fire marshal or state elevator inspector have a problem?
are you doing an inspection and unsure if it meets code?

Hey leo ,
I had inspection in Philly , and would not give then a cert . And one of our old friends says I should certify system .
3 levels ( my question is here , more than 2 levels / with less than 25 ' travel ?)
Shunt trip
Less than 25' travel distance . (I'm ok with this )

What do you mean by "certify system"
when I do an inspection I check if all the devices/systems are working AS INSTALLED and if all devices work that's good.
If a fire panel was installed in 1985 the system needs to meet 1985 code right? at least for NJ that's true.
are you doing more then an inspection or are you certifying that it meets code and what code NFPA, building code, elevator code, HVAC for ducts?
if I inspect a system with one phone line I will note it and also remark "Works as installed"
