Kantech - software Upgrades to 4.02

- Not using a backup, Starting fresh -
In Upgrading to 4.02 with out a backup, Install 4.02 on the computer using the original serial number then use the upgrade serial number, that's it.

- With backup -
The database needs to be upgraded in steps. (it can be upgraded to 4.02 on any computer and then restore to the new computer. Restore the Database Via the backup and upgrade the software in steps.

Note: there are three different versions of EntraPass: Special Edition, Corporate Edition and Global Edition you will only need the one you are upgrading. Corprate being the most common

upgrades: you need to get to 3.18 to get to 4.02
3.14->3.16->3.18->4.02
3.15->3.17->3.18->4.02

- Getting the old version -
The slow and painful part of the upgrade will most likely be getting the older versions. (do it before you get there)

Doing the Upgrade on a different computer then restoring it to the new computer
You can get the backup database and upgrade it all the way to 4.02 then restore it on the new computer.
This works nice, Install 4.02 on the new PC with the original serial number and then the Upgrade serial number and restore the Backup once it has been saved in steps to 4.02

Reboots - The computer will need to reboot after each software install, which is only a problem if it is on a Server that can not be rebooted during work hours.

The software will now need to be registered: online (if a member http://membercenter.kantech.com/login.aspx)- or over the phone
You will need the original serial number and the upgrade serial number to register the software


also goto Kantech and signup as a member (http://membercenter.kantech.com/login.aspx)
You will be able to download older versions of the software once you are a member
goto Member Center it will have 3.18 and newer

- where to find the serial number -

If you can not find the Original serial number you can not do a UPGRADE

1. The Original CD package will have it, which is the easiest.
2. Any backup will also have it within the RegData.ini file.
3. The last place is within the computers registry: Kantech->entrapass corporate->server

I do not think you will be able to use another sites Serial Number to just upgrade the software and then use the upgrade serial number. when 4.02 is registered (online or over the phone) the original serial number along with the upgrade serial number is needed.

Most of these questions will be asked for each software upgrade

do you want to install the Database engine. YES - why not
Do you want to install Intellex API now. NO - Camera stuff
Do you want to install a Corporate Gateway. YES - this is the comm server, is it on the computer, if so answer YES
Select Gateway as NT/2000 service. YES - the computer starts up the service starts, why not
Do you want to install a Smartlink. NO - I am unsure what this is.
Select server as NT/2000 service. YES - the computer starts up the service starts, why not
Installation complete. Would you like to install another application. NO - not idea what this is


- After reboot of 4.02// Server reg - Cancel
